This year the Fifth Annual Sonoma County Book Fair will be held on Saturday, September 18. From 10am to 5pm, the city of Santa Rosa becomes the epicenter for the literary arts in Northern California. Bringing nationally recognized and acclaimed local authors to Sonoma County, our Book Fair provides fun events for all ages and helps promote and encourage reading and writing. Old Courthouse Square, the heart of downtown Santa Rosa, is the backdrop for book lovers to discover independent booksellers, publishers, small presses, literary magazines, and writing groups. In various downtown locations, visitors enjoy author readings, children's events, book club discussions, poetry slams, and presentations from Sonoma County Reads. This is a free public event created to promote the literary arts and bring readers, writers, booksellers, and publishers together.

The Book Fair offers a wide variety of authors and panel discussions. Over the past four years, the Book Fair has brought such acclaimed authors as Louise Erdrich, Isabel Allende, and Dorothy Allison to Sonoma County. This year Alice Walker and California State Librarian, Kevin Starr are slated to speak at fundraising events prior to the event.

The Sonoma County Book Fair was created as a way to celebrate the rich literary culture of this area. Originally a program of the Cultural Arts Council of Sonoma County, the Book Fair is now the main event sponsored by the Literary Arts Guild, a non-profit corporation.
